Background: CIAPIN1 (Cytokine induced apoptosis inhibitor 1) expression is dependent on growth factor stimulation. Overexpression confers resistance to apoptosis caused by IL3 deprivation. It may be required during hematopoiesis to mediate antiapoptotic effects of various cytokines. It also confers multidrug resistance in gastric cancer cells by upregulating the expression of MDR1 and MRP1.
